Re: Windows Mobile 6.5.3?

If we ever get an unlocker I am sure we will see a "version" of wm 7 from the guys over at xda . I'm running a stable version of Sense 2.5 (2011) on my Imagio so I am satisfied for the time being.

true enough, but remember, sense 2.5 was ported from a phone running wm6.5, It will be a lot harder to port an OS designed for completely different hardware. Although we did port android over to wm, so anything is possible, it just won't be as easy as porting sense.

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5.3?

I'm sure we probably won't get the complete wm 7 rom because of the phone hardware but will get a watered down rom with SOME of the wm 7 features . I will never under-estimate the guys at xda , they constantly surprise me with the the roms and mods they come up with. There are alot of phones that don't have the hardware for wm 7 but thier owners will want wm7 and will do what it takes to get some form of it.

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5.3?

if verizon/htc/ms does not ship wm6.5.3 for verizon that will be a HUGE disappointment and frankly utterly stupid. Verizon paid for the exclusivity now needs to PUSH to make it better and better, especially as spring/summer has a lull of new phones and wm7 forthcoming.

in short it's SMART BUSINESS doing 6.53 for imagio... a no-brainer.

Now, regarding WM7/WP7..... i wonder what some of you guys do on your phones because imho every phone sold in the USA to date (except nexus one and soon HD2) is UNDERPOWERED and LACKS RAM.

that is with Titanium nevermind TF3D or Sense (any versions they're all pigs).

adding wm7/wp7 to a nice wm6x phone with older processor and insufficent memory will not be useful in any way. unless wm7 has better memory management, lower resources, etc. All of which is highly, highly unlikely.

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5.3?

When did VZW ever do anything that was considered a smart business practice when it comes to wm phones ? Don't hold your breath. They don't even advertise them. 9 times out of 10 , you will get the upgrade from xda before you get it from vzw.

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5.3?

WM6.x devices don't need "advertising" in that you don't generally advertise product soon to be totally replaced. Lets hope WP7 is marketable to casuals.

Verizon $30/month forced data plans is "smart business" but really they upgraded Ozone which shipped at 6.1 with no promises (those came from microsoft & htc).

I think wm6.5.3 is VERY LIKELY myself from Verizon (perhaps discussed with WM7 in a few weeks) because of these reasons...

#1. Verizon's TP2 wm6.5 upgrade includes a better/newer manilla and is an upgraded from Imagios 6.5.

#2. Pressure from Microsoft to bolster Window Phone after WP7 is announced in two weeks. Improving the WP ecosystem & "low end devices" is in their best interest. This xmas Imagio will hopefully be a "low end" Windows Phone, but important nonetheless vs droid, palm, etc.

#3. Marketplace forces/competition make it a no-brainer.

#4. Verizon is NOT getting a CDMA iPhone (see LTE nationwide 2012) so it needs good smartphones in all varieties (and corporate)

#5. Smartphones are very popular with said data plans and poised for GROWTH.

possible #6. If another carrier gets Imagio/Diamond2 it will no doubt come with 6.5.3+ making Verizon look silly.

They will just come out with a new phone that will make the latest and greatest crowd forget the Imagio.

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5.3?

latest and greatest will be on Windows Phone 7 and won't have WM6.x

Verizon has TWO WM 6.5 touch phones in stores (tp2 online only in NYC market fwiw) which is OK given wm6.5 is a stop-gap.

The "latest and greatest" is but a small subset of a large, profitable and by all accounts GROWING smartphone market that Verizon is doing business.

Put any Verizon windows mobile phone on wm6.5.3 and it looks & feels better to customers than wm6.5.0 providing a value added service. This is Business 101 guys.

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5.3?

While I don't think VZW will do a darn thing in terms of upgrading the Imagio, the idea of us having WM7 is highly likely...except for one caveat: Multi-Touch. In a great many of the requirements I've seen for WM7, they all list multi-touch as mandatory (IE capacitive rather than resistive screen.) The Imagio has more than enough power to run wm7, and the ARMv6 chipset is also compatible. Quite frankly, I don't buy the 1ghz processor claim as there is only two devices currently on the market the HD2 and LG Expo, that have such a processor. Unless we have a heaping helping of 1Ghz toys coming over the summer/fall, I just don't see that being the minimum. Even if it takes until fall to see wm7, I wouldn't expect many more. Then again, if they choose to release it bundled with the rumored zune phone, which will undoubtedly have a 1Ghz chipset, then we're boned. Our biggest hurdle will be the lack of multi-touch, so unless someone comes up with a work-around, we may be hosed. Nevertheless, any hope of vzw upgrading this thing is a fantasy. We may get extremely lucky and see 6.5.3 but I wouldn't hope for too much more folks...
