whats an unlocker

maybe is a dumb question but im new on winmo.. i been learnin lot .. so its legal or ilegal the unlocker? n what it do? how can i get it? thanx for the help

if it was illegal we couldn't post it here.

check out the upgrades forum for more info. the tp2 is the latest to be unlocked so i would start in that forum for up to date info on what the unlocker is/does and how you will get it when it is released.

An unlocker is a tool developed by 'the scene' that allows us to get around the restrictions/protections that the handset manfuacturers place on the devices to keep code/roms/etc that aren't officially released by themselves from being loaded.

In other words it lets one load custom software on phones, none of it is 'illegal' its just frowned upon by the producers and service providers.

a unlocker is more in the moral gray area!

Is it legal: yes. Will it void your warranty if you bring it to a VZW store as-is: yes.

Its kinda like the tag on a mattress...Sure, you can rip it off, but once you do you're gonna have a hell of a time trying to return it. If you choose to do it, back up your stuff and remember to do a hard reset/return to factory spec before visiting VZW.
