How do you move a google contact, to a phone contact?

I have received two texts, from different friends, which I have added as a contact. But the only place they show up, is under text messages. If I type their name, or their phone number through the phone dialer, it doesn't display their name. Doing the same in the text messaging app will display their name. How do I get my contacts over to my people application, as well?

*Edit - I figured out where my contacts went....when you add a contact in the phone, it goes to the Google contact group. I uploaded my phone contacts through Outlook, and it is under the "Phone" group. I don't want to show my google contacts, as it has a ton of them (800). How can I move the contact to the Phone group. When I go to edit the contact, I don't have any options under the Group drop down.

Re: Adding a contact, but only shows under text messaging?

Do you have your phone set to sync all of your gmail contacts, or do you have it setup to only sync certain groups? If it's certain groups, did you add these new contacts to those groups when you added them?

I didn't add it to the phone group when I put the contact in my phone. But now I can't change the group. How do I do that?

The easiest way to do it would be to go to gmail.com and go to your contacts and just change what group they belong to. If you want to do it from your phone then just add them as if they are a new contact again and make sure to choose the group.

Re: How do you move a google contact, to a phone contact?

I had to delete the contacts from my phone, and add them again, but this time, under the "Contact Type" dropdown, I selected "Phone". You only have this option if you uploaded your contacts from Outlook, I think. I wish the contacts app would allow you to change this in the future. It makes no sense that you can't change the contact type on your phone after you have already created the contact. I'd rather backup my contacts myself, because google does a horrible job of this through Gmail.

Nope, save as phone contact is available to anyone. It just means that it's stored like how a typical phone would work (on the phone itself) and not as part of your google sync. I personally love the contact sync provided by gmail, but I was already using it for the purpose long before I got this phone.

Re: How do you move a google contact, to a phone contact?

It may be a pain in the butt to change your contacts to google but its well worth it. Your using android now. There are other programs to backup contacts but the one built for this phone as well as all android phones is google/gmail sync. So take advantage of this free service.

Plus now that you've got an Android device, you can easily sync your contacts with the next Android phone you get. I mean c'mon do you ever see yourself going to windows mobile?? lol

Re: How do you move a google contact, to a phone contact?

To move specific google contacts and have them saved under phone do this. Go into your gmail. Click contacts, check the contacts you want to move, export the .csv file.

Open outlook, import the .csv file

Now sync with pc

Also, make sure you click phone>Menu>View and uncheck google.
