How Do I Get Rid Of The "Grass Is Greener" Syndrome???

Ugh..... this is what i hate when it comes to mobile technology....

I have a Hero and IMO its the best thing to fall in my hands, customizable, OpenGL support, smooth Android interface with SenseUI, tons of apps, etc. etc.

Every device has its ups and downs but i cant get rid of that nagging itch to try out a Touch pro 2 or get me another Palm Pre...... Touch pro 2 caught my interest greatly with Sense 2.5 and the kick azz keyboard, but the downside is that its still WM.... And i always prefered the WebOS overall interface over anything else available and with update 1.3.1, it makes it feel more like a complete product than ever, also the fact that the Pre takes the best pics of any camera phone i ever had... but when it comes to things like apps and SDK, it lacks a lot....

How can i get rid of this itch i have to switch even though im convinced that currently the Hero has all i need and more...??

Re: How Do I Get Rid Of The "Grass Is Greener" Syndrome???

I'm with you on this. Except i have the pre, and i am really itching to get a hero. I love its form factor and build quality. Im not so sure about the software being laggy or not, but thats the great thing about it being an htc device, you can change it! I love my pre, but i am just a little discouraged about it. The biggest thing is the build quality. There's nothing better than a solid phone, which is what i've heard the hero is. I've got the itch as well

i have the same issue but with devices on other services. i played with the droid and the bb storm2. i was even trying to make the higher bill logical by saying the service is better. will most likley wait a few weeks, hell ive been out of contract for 8 months on 2 lines.

Re: How Do I Get Rid Of The "Grass Is Greener" Syndrome???

i had the itch, but sprint replaced my touch pro1 with a touch pro 2 so i used my upgrade to by the hero. the hero is a really nice phone, but the sprint guy said something to make me give it back and wait to see if they fix the dust under the screen problem. he didnt sound like they were going to stand behind this phone so i returned it so i can use my upgrade later

Re: How Do I Get Rid Of The "Grass Is Greener" Syndrome???

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Sense 2.5 only comes on a custom TP2 ROM at the moment, right, as opposed to any stock ROM on a TP2...or at least that's what I thought.

If that's the case, I'm using one as we speak (TP2 w/ Juicy R2 Sense 2.5 ROM). As it happens, we also picked up a Hero today for my wife and I have to say, and I can say this now having played with both, that the Sense UI on the Hero is cleaner, smoother, and more customizable than that on the TP2 custom ROMs at the moment. You don't have screens you can customize on the TP2 Sense UI, just a predetermined number of tabs e.g. home, calendar, weather, stocks, messaging, etc. You can add Max Manilla into the mix and that actually allows you to add more shortcuts on the home tab, but it's nothing like the 7 totally customizable pages on the Hero. That reminded me of SPB Mobile Shell all most. Poppy likes!

And I was impressed with the sheer number of free apps.

And finally what has always kept me coming back to the more popular WM devices (Mogul, TP, TP2) is the following and customization on places like PPCG. I had a Treo Pro early on but hated the fact that the PPCG forum had such a small following / # of posts on a daily basis (I realize that's changed somewhat these days for that particular model). But I see the Hero is off to a great start and already has a large following. This is a plus for any 'geeker

Just my $0.02.

Re: How Do I Get Rid Of The "Grass Is Greener" Syndrome???

I originally got the Hero, swapped to the Pre after a week. The first Hero was a dud, the replacement was better, but the lack of a proximity sensor annoyed the heck out of me. Plus, an RSS reader is a big deal to me, and Feedr slowed my phone down to a CRAWL. It would take 5 minutes just to update 10 feeds, averaging 2 articles per feed. Tried to just bookmark the google reader page, and it was an annoyance.

So yeah, Best Buy is letting me 30 day swap as often as I'd like, thinking about keeping it going until something comes out in January, like the Sprint version of the Passion.

Re: How Do I Get Rid Of The "Grass Is Greener" Syndrome???

Chimming in...I"m on my 3rd HTC Phone in a row. Touch to Diamond and now Hero. The build quality has improved each time and I'm pretty happy so far with my Hero even though it isn't perfect. The phone doesn't really lag too often unless you forget to use the back button when you are done using an application like the browser. That said, it could stand to be a bit snappier.

The thing that bugs me the most (and HTC seems to do this a lot) is how they slow play their technology to get us to keep shelling out for the better, higher resolution, and faster phones. I can't say I blame them, but why couldn't they put a faster processer and higher resolution screen on the Hero?

It's similar to watching Iphones come out with subtle changes that could have been part of the 1st gen. phones but apparently doing the right thing and making loads of money just don't always go hand in hand.

I'm definetly glad I've got ppcgeeks to help me with my phones so the novelty doesn't wear off.

Re: How Do I Get Rid Of The "Grass Is Greener" Syndrome???

i was given a touch pro 2 from att (tilt2) to mod and i can gladly say that my itch is getting better lol. I never wanted to get rid of the hero but im the kind of guy that looks over his shoulder even though his plate is full... Hero is better, period. I forgot how much i hated the look of winmo deeper than manila. And as for the Pre, i opened a thread on precentral asking if with all the current updates, if it feels like a complete OS now or an unfinished one still.... to my surprise, the majority said that it still lacks a lot and still feels like a beta OS.

Thats the kind of assurance i wanted since i already was already convinced that the Hero is the best in the game ATM in all places that matter for me. But i just wanted to make sure i would regret switching....

Hero for life!!!!!! ......or till the Dragon hits
