edit..
Now you gotta boot into recovery mode and make a nandroid backup, then your ready to have some fun.

Finally understand this I feel like I can read the matrix now lol! but Ihave succesfully got the custom ROM loaded and just finsihed removing a lot of bloat! Thanks for all the help!!!!!

i cant figure out the nandroid backup, i keep getting errors. and there is nothing on my storage card.

so i went ahead and removed some apps anyway..oh boy..

hmmm...i dont see the things i uninstalled, but i dont have any more free memory, and one of them messed with the font clarity...hmm

stock,twitter, footprints, learn more, amazon, IM
stuff i removed.

what do i put at the end of the command line after i remove the programs i want? do i just power down the phone?

I am wondering what happens if we ever forget to remount the filesystem as RO.

Also everyone that rooted should buy SU File Manager & Terminal from the market. It's very helpful. One click RW/RO toggles. I find just as important as Resco Explorer was to windows mobile.

No, the last command produced an error. It's telling you how to use the command. You need the command (flash_image) followed by the location you want to put it (partition) followed by the file you want to put there (file.img).

It should look like this:

flash_image recovery recovery-RA-heroc-v1.2.3.img

Do we actually have to do this or does it revert to RO after we reboot?

EDIT:
Answering my own question. I think it reverts automatically since I get the read-only error each time I do this. Also, someone just posted on XDA that "adb remount" Works the same as the long remount command mentioned previously. Much easier!
