Re: If you already rooted your hero

My problem was that for some reason a lot of the necessary files did not extract. I went back extracted the files again, downloaded USBDeview and removed the drivers, and basically redid the whole process. this time I got further but now it seems like it is going through then it just says "adb: not found". I think this process just hates me

So I'm still not sure if I was successful

I've been rooted btw, the problem has been backing up. I just unplugged and retried everything and got it all to work but instead of nandroid working it just gave me the phone with an exclamation mark. I think I remember seeing this problem somewhere so I will search and try to fix.. sigh

You're making it hard on yourself. The problem wasn't the extraction. If you were able to root the very first time, all you had to do was follow that post from xda with the dollar signs. I had got the same batch internal problem you had. The problem was that I kept entering the money sign.

Once you input the "adb shell" you should get the "$" now type cd /sdcard, hit enter, now type su, hit enter, now you should see a "#" sign, now just type flash_image recovery recovery-RA-heroc-v1.2.3.img, hit enter now you are done!

Now just type reboot recovery, and you will get nandroid!

You can system reboot, or choose to do a quick back up! Then you can flash this Rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581846

I hear you buddy and I tried those things before redoing everything. For some reason it just wasnt acknowledging any command beginning with adb, but now it seems to work and tho i haven't been able to get the green nandroid screen yet ( just the exclamation mark) I think it worked because the last time it ran a bunch of script and i see the image file on my device (hopefully an indicator of success). Thanks!!!!

edit: Oh yeah unless I'm missing nandroid files just go in the c: drive correct?

edit: edit: Dont know what changed but after repeating the steps for the 100th time IT WORKED!!!!! I love u guys now to remove apps and try to flash the rom. Thanks all. sorry for high jacking the thread lmao.

Re: If you already rooted your hero

Ok hopefully my last question. I was able to root and backup my phone (finally). I got the list of apps to load but could not really get any to be removed with the exception of one, i think. Now it is going back to denying me access to the adb shell, saying it is not a valid command. So idk whats wrong and I cant even check if teh one file was removed nor can i get nandroid back up even using the power+ home method.

Re: If you already rooted your hero

I am getting ready to root my hero. I have read through the posts here and on xda. Right now my only question is this. After I flash the image that I download and I go to reboot recovery to use nandroid for a backup, does it create the backup image on the sd card or on my host pc? Also does it matter which version of the sdk you use? Can it be 1.5 or 1.6 or 2.0?
