Re: Switch to Stock Vanilla Android on the Hero

Why was it assumed that Sense was a complete remake of the operating system? Android works swimmingly without htc diving in and gutting it. All HTC had to do in the first place was make it look different and add their signature apps. Android doesn't necessitate remaking the OS's core, as it would be bad *** on any device without the help of our friends at HTC.

I didn't think it was a complete remake, just that it would be integrated on a deeper level I guess.

I'll check switching back if my Sense settings, layout, and scenes are saved and if I switch back to vanilla once more if that desktop is saved. If so it might be cool to have both to toggle between at your will. Kind of like a vanilla scene. I'll report back in a few with my findings.

I'd assumed it was a deeper integration based on an interview I'd read somewhere. Maybe on Engadget. The HTC rep was asked about it and he/she responded that this wasn't simply a skin over Android. That they'd put a lot of work into it. That still may be true (as I mentioned above), but it still is surprising that turning Sense on and off is as easy as it is.

Re: Switch to Stock Vanilla Android on the Hero

ok im happy again.... looks like the mask was only the home screen (very understandable actually) cuz when i tried this out i was looking for the vanilla Android apps since i had a nervous breakdown thinking there were two versions of most apps... one Android standard, and one HTC. But seems like the standard Android ones are nowhere to be found even with sense off... which makes me still believe that HTC redesigned the standard ones (yayyy open source!!!) to make the ones we have now rather than write these from scratch and hide the default ones, thus the deeper integration they were mentioning.... (makes sense since the HTC browser is in fact the Android browser but with new bookmarks page, muiltitouch, and flash enabled)

Im happy again.....
