Straight from the horses mouth:

The rumors are true! Hero will be getting an Eclair update. We ask for your patience as we update Sense for the fancy new Android OS.

HTC just posted that on their Twitter.
Hopefully its sooner rather than later

Hmm, I am willing to wait a while for 2.0 if we could get 1.6 now. Too many little bugs that I have a feeling are from jury-rigging CDMA into 1.5

I have a feeling that they may just skip 1.6 for the cdma hero. There is no reason to put out two consecutive updates right after each other. The gsm heros have had 1.6 for a month or 2 now. Plus 2.0 is launching on droid Nov 6. So unless they can push 1.6 out in 2 weeks, its kind of pointless. Plus they have the dragon launching soon with 2.0 and the hardware looked pretty final to me, so that means they should be close to announcing it.

I don't think the GSM heroes ever got 1.6. I think the statement they made was for the EU hero too. While I don't see any reason to drop a 2.0 for EU Heroes and a 1.6 for US I think there was a communication breakdown somewhere.

EU heroes will be getting 2.0, not 1.6.

No announcement has been made for US CDMA Heroes. Although I am hopeful and I am also hopeful that while I want HTC to drop an update I hope they get the bugs fixed this time. I think maybe if they would drop an update with OTA hotfixes as a possibility they would avoid some serious problems they have run into in the past.

i love the features 2.0 has cant wait to see how htc can make them even better. i love my hero more and more every day now that i started using dolphin i love it some more today!

Can't wait... why do 1.6 with 2.0 in the pipes, hopefully the work on the Dragon means they've already been tweeking 2.0 and Sense (assuming the Dragon runs Sense). Maybe we'll see it by mid Nov. *fingers crossed*

I will try to start making custom roms for the Hero as soon as my b-day rolls around (Nov. 8th)...just will take some time to research and debug and then maybe 2.0 will come sooner then expected

i'm glad its getting 2.0. I just hope that they fix this annoying lag that i get when I type in landscape. That is the ONLY gripe that I have about this phone. Coming from a TP and its MANY problems, I can live with this one problem, because I know its a software bug and can be fixed.

so you bought one too huh? can't wait to see what you cook up!
