Alarm refuses to make sound...

On my Sprint Hero. Just happened this morning. My alarms through my HTC clock widget refuse to make any sound. Instead I woke up because of the vibrate. Tried setting some different alarm sounds, made new alarms, but it just refuses to sound. Ensured that my call and media volumes were way up and tried with or without bluetooth.

Power cycling the phone didn't help...

Any ideas?

(Timer part doesn't make sound either...)

The alarm sound has it's own volume level. Go to the "Alarm sound" settings where you choose the alarm tone, then turn up the volume using the volume rocker buttons. Most likely you turned the volume all the way down when it went off.

Re: Alarm refuses to make sound...

Yeah, that did it.

That's really hidden. I'm annoyed they made it volume accessed on each alarm and sound when it affects all the sounds in the app including the timer.

Man, before this, I was going crazy because I even tried clearing the application data and that didn't do anything...

I actually like it that way. If you think about it, having more control over every sound is much better. Like, say you turn the volume down all the way one afternoon while listening to music and forget to turn it back up. Then your alarm sound won't go off and you're late for work now because of it. It's good to have it seperate.

The WM G-alarm app has that "override sound even if volume is set to mute" option. This is kinda the same thing for the reason mentioned above.

The problem lies in the manual not being thorough enough to explain alot of the settings on the phone. There are ALOT of things on this phone i've found just by playing with it or trial and error.

Re: Alarm refuses to make sound...

I understand that it's great to have the alarm sound volume accessible like that... but...

1) why not make it a visible setting?
2) if you're going to make it so you set it while on each sound, why does it have an effect on all the volumes of every alarm you set? Similarly, if it's going to be global, why not have the volume rocker work on the alarm screen, instead of having it just control ringer volume?

Ah well... In any case, thanks for the help...

Re: Alarm refuses to make sound...

No, prob. And yeah the phone has alot of "man WTF were they thinking" issues with it. Like the ones I found were

1. no copy and pasting allowed to or from the stock gmail app
2. no copy and pasting allowed into sprint nav.
3. no predictive text in search forms or web address fields. Only multi-tap.
4. no predictive text dictionary editing.

But overall i'm pretty happy with the phone and i'm sure some, if not all of these issues will hopefully be fixed soon.

Re: Alarm refuses to make sound...

I really am enjoying this phone. But I also depend upon it for my morning alarm. I loved G-Alarm on my Diamond - very reliable. I decided to try a familiar name on my Hero, so I gave Klaxon a try. I like it but for some reason it didn't make a sound (it did turn on, just not a sound) the other morning. After looking around a bit I decided to try Math Alarm (sans Math problems) and it seems nice too. I wish I knew why Klaxon (if it even has anything to do with that program) didn't sound off. Oh well.

Looked through alot of alarms in the market place and the one I settled on is Gawake. Closest to G-alarm that I could find. Just doesn't have all the fancy maze options for the snooze and all that (just has a snooze and off button). And I never used those mazes from G-alarm anyway. It allows for multiple alarms and plays music from your SD card and also allows you to set the snooze time, which alot of the apps for some reason don't.

I saw another app that had a shake to snooze feature which was cool but didn't have the ablility to use music files. Might suggest that feature to the developer of Gawake.

Re: Alarm refuses to make sound...

Thanks for the advice quiqnezz. I might just give it (Gawake) a try. It's funny but I didn't ever use the mazes either in G-alarm. Nevertheless, I really did like that program.

Re: Alarm refuses to make sound...

There is a great 'Audio Manager' program for android that gives you a mixer for all audio controls on the phone. The android widget for it gives a very handy display as well.
