Sombody on another board explained this pretty well. Basically, at least on boot up, everything is vyying for memory to perform their sync (Facebook, Mail, Calendar, Twitter....) which is why the boot up takes a little longer. I don't know if this holds true on wake-up, but I've only noticed 1-2 seconds lag upon wake up after it's been asleep for awhile. Realistically, that's nothing.

When I have the browser open and hit the back button, it acts like a back button for the browser and brings me back to the previous web page. What am I doing wrong here?

you're not doing anything wrong. that's exactly what it is supposed to do. If you want to leave the browser exactly where you left it when you left the app, just hit the "home" button. I've personally found, however, that this method, after time, slows down the phone as the browser uses quite a bit of memory. Backing out of it keeps it running snappy....at least in my experience. just keep hitting back until you're all the way out of it.
