Is there really no way to turn off all sounds on this phone without going into settings?

Yes there is click and hold the End Call button and select accordingly (The red phone/power button)

haha jeesh. you mean the red end call button that i've clicked and held probably 30 times to turn my phone off. never really payed attention to the rest of the options.
