How much available memory do you have?

RAM, that is....I had to download a program from the market to view available memory, but I have 192 total, and I'm using around 155-160mb all the time. That leaves me with ~30mb of spare RAM, which isn't too much better than my mogul. While the phone doesn't have issues running programs, I'd like to up the available a bit.

Currently, the only applications running are HTC Sense, People, and Dialer. If I close the people and dialer, it makes about 0 difference to the available memory. The only thing on my home screen that needs to refresh is the large clock, with the weather, and the htc stock widget, which takes up the whole screen. I'm just curious what uses 160 mb of ram on my phone?

Which task manager do you use? I use Task Manager from eMobile. To get my available memory, I use System Monitor, from Skwid.

i used to have advanced task killer till i found out it was the reason i could not receive texts.... now i dont use any. i dont notice any difference in speed since android is designed to manage memory by itself

Re: How much available memory do you have?

I only have like 26M.

It seems like a very small amount when I'm not loaded up on widgets.

I think you had it setup wrong or something cuz I'm STILL using it and get text messages with no problem.

I would think there would be apps that would tell you which processes are running and how much memory they are taking up. One way to do it without an app is to go the Home screen, hit Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Applications and just click on several to see their memory usage. This will give you an idea of how much memory some processes take up. While in that list, if you hit Menu>Filter>Running it'll only show running processes.

You do actually have to click each process to see how much memory its using. You can see that just these 3 processes takes up almost 70megs.

Re: How much available memory do you have?

When I go into settings/sd card & phone storage, my internal phone storage says I have 98MB of available space. Is that how much room I have left to install apps?
