Upgrading SD card questions

I notice the MicroSD card has a bunch of folders on it. Pictures are stored there. Also looks like the background images for your home screen are there, as well. If I want to upgrade to a 16gb card, do I unmount the old card, put the new card in the phone, and let android do its thing? What if I put a card that already had stuff on it, and I didn't want to lose that stuff?

Re: Upgrading SD card questions

i upgraded mine. i first took all the info off my bigger card so i wouldnt ruin any info on it then unmounted the old one and took it out and put the bigger on in. it recognized it but i think there are some differences in the format style and gave me an error on my computer when i tried to view the sd card so i just formated it using the phone and everything works fine now. i then put on the info i wanted on my card. its not a problem. at least it wasnt for me.

good luck

Re: Upgrading SD card questions

are you kidding me!!!! android makes you unmount the card first. so you can't just swap cards around at will. lol I knew there was a reason I didn't like linux.

Re: Upgrading SD card questions

I just popped out the 2 gig, dropped in my 8 and copied all the stuff on the 2gig(from my PC) to the 8gig... no issues and the Hero sees all the space and the software I copied...

you can do it that way also if you dont mind putting your files at risk on the bigger one. i like making sure i wont lose anything. its to important to me to risk it like that.

you dont have to, you can just take it out if you want... but its safer for the card if you unmount it, just like on a pc when you click to safely remove. not really a reason to not like linux
