Battery Life: Just how bad?
Thinking about picking up the Hero when my contract is up in mid Nov. Currently using the Diamond. So, just how much time can you get out of this phone with moderate-heavy use (texting, surfing). And if anyone is familiar, is the Pre or Hero likely to get more battery life with similar use.
|
Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
My phone comes off of the charger at 7am. After a day of heavy use, games, surfing, texting, and talking, it was at 15% at 11:30pm. I would say the battery life is great.

Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
I am impressed so far

Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
Wow, that's great to hear. Cnet claimed otherwise. All I know is that if I have to work with this diamond much longer, I might just do something crazy.. Thanks for the feedback

Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
I had a TP that was about a year old.. the batt would not last me through the day without charging. My new HERO lasted from 7am till about 2pm with exchange syncing every 10 and me playing with it a lot.
Then today I had not charged it from about 3am on(was not fully charged).. left the WiFi on from 3am till 7am accidentally listened to Pandora for a good while and played with it until it died at around 12pm.. I am sure using a ton of apps could kill it. But, you are able to turn of the constant data access.. I have not tried it because I am not having batt issues yet and like the location functions. I think if you were a moderate user, you wold easily make it through the day on a charge. |
Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
I have a cooked TP and i just got the Hero. Holy smokes this thing is quick and the battery lasts a billion times longer. Mind this i have wifi and BT on with tons of web browsing. Cant wait for the 1.6 update

Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
Battery life is way better than my TP. I'm loving this phone!

Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
Yea, battery life is great on this device. Better than the Pre.
|
Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
Battery life on this phone has been much better and I mean much better than I any winmo device I have ever owned
|
Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
So far so good with me! I am a HEAVY user, and I love the life of this battery.

Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
yes battery is great i used qik mostly all day along with other apps while at the theme parks. and i was so happy that i didnt hear the "critically low" notification, i would get from my Touch Pro. i had to keep checking the battery level on the phone lol

Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
best battery i have ever had. use it and on it all day. much better then TP and Pre
Faldiin |
Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
Much better then my TP. So far it lasts pretty much all day and I use the hell out of it. Today I was roaming a lot and it drained twice as fast but I'm used to that. Not sure how long it takes to break in the battery.
|
Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
Actually, I think it's crap. I've had it for 3 days now and not once had it made it to 7pm (moderate user)

Battery is good on this phone considering how much beating I give it. |
Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
Updating my visual voicemail was the first thing that I did out of the box. I am still trying to burn the battery in but 12 hours is not enough for the day.

Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
If you guys want a little more juice, Seidio just came out with a 1750mAh battery that fits in your device's existing battery space and doesn't require a replacement door.

Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
I was bragging on the battery life here yesterday.. I had setup my Voicmail and noticed a huge difference today. I will check my other apps but, today was not nearly as good as yesterday. I also did the VV update.

Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
I second all the above statements. I have literally been tryin to see how far I can push it and I've been presently surprised with its performance. Soo much better than my TP.
|
Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
What they said killing my TP.
|
Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
i didn't deliberately push it (yet) but it lasted from 8am - 10:30pm with casual usage, not a bad run

Battery Issue Fix *Temp*
WORKAROUND FOUND:
Quick recap if you didn't read above: a bug has been found in the HTC sms app. For some reason when you SEND a text message it puts a lock on the dialer app. This lock prevents the phone from ever going to sleep, even when the screen is off. This is causing a HUGE drain on battery life because the CPU is still awake. The current workaround is to disable the internal sms app and use one of the free ones from the market instead. Thanks to mobilehavoc for testing out a new sms app and realizing that it didn't create the lock. The current two recommendations are ChompSMS and HandCent. It is has been confirmed by multiple users (mobilehavoc, freshlyill, spork27, and myself) that the phone is sleeping properly if you don't use the internal messaging client (and of course assuming you don't have a different issue than described here!). Between the two apps my personal recommendation is HandCent. It has a huge number of tweaks and can give you the same look and feel as the internal app. FAQ: Q) I killed the messages / dialer / phone using a task manager but my phone still isn't sleeping? A) Killing the app is not necessary anymore. That was a temporary fix while I was working on figuring out exactly what caused the lock. All you need to do is use a 3rd party messaging app and stop using the internal app. Q) I'm using a 3rd party app but now both the internal app and the 3rd party app are telling me I have a new message? A) You need to disable notification from the internal app. All Programs < Messages < Menu < Settings < Uncheck auto-retrieve & uncheck Notifications. Q) I followed all of your directions but my phone still isn't going to sleep? A) It's possible that another app you have is preventing the phone from sleeping. You need to restore and start over. 1) Restore the phone to factory settings (Settings > Security > Factory data reset) 2) After the phone restores, boot it all the way up. Turn the phone all the way off and then boot it up again. 3) After the phone boots all the way, wake the phone up and put it to sleep a couple of times, then leave it asleep and wait 5 minutes. Check your awake/sleep time. *For this to work then you should not have installed any apps after the restore, and do not send any texts. This rules out ALL issues of other apps you have installed preventing it from sleeping. Q) How do I know if my phone is sleeping? A) When your screen is actually turned off, there's no way for to know. However you can check your timer at: Settings < About Phone < Status < Awake Time. Pull it up and then put your phone to sleep. Wait 1 minute and then wake it up. If your awake time has counted by more than 5-10 seconds then your phone isn't sleeping. Also the % should be less than 100%. The lower the better. You can reset the timers by powering the phone off and on again. Q) I don't even text, will this fix my phone? A) Nope Q) I have tried everything and my phone still won't sleep? A) You are doing something wrong. Restore your phone and try again. P.S: remember you need to upgrade your voicemail software if you hard reset as it is also causing the same wake problem resolved above. Re: Battery Issue Fix *Temp*
I would recommend you to check first to see if your phone is sleeping or not first before you apply the fix.
Try this first and I am pretty sure just like me you should see your %'s in very high numbers. ------------------------ When your screen is actually turned off, there's no way for to know. |
Re: Battery Issue Fix *Temp*
It looks like my phone is not sleeping, but I read the comments on the handcent app and they all say that the app slows the phone down a lot.

Re: Battery Life: Just how bad?
i just streamed pandora radio for 2 1/2 hours at the gym and i still had 3/4 of a battery left. my touch pro would of been dead in 2 hours. the battery life is so much better. i havent put this thing down!

Re: Battery Issue Fix *Temp*
Ok, so i finally realized the battery drain everyone is talking about. I only got about 9 hours out of mine.
The question I have is this, is a complete factory restore required in order to get the workaround working? I'm hoping to be able to just power down and install Handcent and call it good. I'm not quite following how the "fix" is supposed to work. If it's as simple as just installing the Handcent app, powering the phone down and then powering up again and then changing the notification settings in messaging, that's not a big deal, but if I have to factory reset, it may be a deal breaker, as i just spent the last 3 days setting it up :) Any help? |

No you do not need a factory reset, install ha-scent and disable notifications for the messages app that came with the phone and restart your phone and remember to never open and use the messages app. |

Re: Battery Issue Fix *Temp*
I am having issues disabling the stock MMS program, help please? I went into the settings within the program and turned off auto retrieve and notifications. I also made handcent the default MMS program. I am getting the audible sound for handcent, and not the stock mms prog, but I am still getting the little "1" icon on the stock prog when a new text is received.

So far it does seem to be working. I turned off the notifications and auto-retrieval in the native sms client and turned on the notifications in Handcent. I also went into a contact and acted like i was going to send a text so that I could choose Handcent to be the default app to send texts from (thus, clearing it from the manage apps menu). As of right now, my up time and awake time are different (i believe at 65% or so). The big test will be after a full day's use and texting. Thanks for the help on this. I'll hit the topic back if something goes awry tomorrow. |
