i used my hero for a few months when it first came out then went back to bb tour for work reasons ... now its back to play time and these themes are amazing ... i still have my hero rooted and have fresh on it 1.1 (OS1.5), i didnt want to go with the 2.1 and deal with bugs at the moment ...

wheres the best spot to reface my hero and with all this new stuff ... themes have came a long way since phone was released

You can either browse the hero mods section of ppcgeeks or head on over to the cdma hero section of xda-developers.com which has a quite a bit more options. Most of the amazing themes you see are a combination of different taskbar, lockscreen, launcher, ect.. modifications that have been implemented to make user screens look as good as they do.

As far as bugs in 2.1 though... It's not as unstable as it used to be a month ago. Alot of people use it day to day without experiancing any bugs what so ever. Give fresh 2.0d a shot if you want the most stable version out. Also check out his vanilla lockscreen. Get both at www.geekfor.me
