Hero missing SMS after 2.1 upgrade. Any solutions?

I know this is a documented problem, but I haven't been able to find any solutions.
My girlfriends Hero started missing incoming texts after upgrading to 2.1 (stock). Happens regardless of SMS software used.

Has anyone heard of a solution to this?
Does changing ROMs help?
