Fresh Rom 2.3.3.. not fast enough!!??

Okay so lets skip the fore play and jump right into business shall we?
I have an HTC Hero200 by Sprint.. Rooted, currently running Buufed 2.0.3
and its not a bad OS and im liking it how ever a few friends of mine were looking for something closer to the original HTC Software... aaannnndd since Fresh uses the HTC Sense i decided id give it a shot. Its got high rating amongst users and looks pretty stable... !!HOWEVER!!... I am not getting anywhere near close the speed i am with Buufed.. i realize fresh doesnt come with a particular overclock kernel so i downloaded one.. its going at max of 768Mhz but it still doesnt seem as fast as Buufed.. and it isnt.. im at 787Mhz on Buufed.. Also Buufed on Linpack has my phone rated at a nice 4.7MFLOPS and with fresh im pushin along at MAYBE 3.3MFLOPS..

So i am asking the public, IS there any answers to this? A faster Kernel perhaps?

the hero is just a slow phone, even with tweaks im afraid. im honestly thinking about going back to the evo soon. don't know why i ever gave it up after a week other than the horrid battery life.

Does that Evo come with a shoulder strap or something to haul it around. Just kidding, but seriously he is just looking for ways to push his speed back to a point that he had reached at one point on the HERO. Saying, oh, that is just a slow phone is useless.

sense is a resource *****, if that is the biggest difference (sense/no sense) between the two roms, I would guess thats the culprit.

Yeah ive figured sense was the culprit but i was hoping to maybe hear of a better ROM or Kernel that would have upped my speed.
I think im going to sit with Buufed for now.

He recently introduced themes into the updater. I haven't been keeping up, though, because i just got an evo. I'm still lurking for the hero though.....

I upgraded to 2.3.3 from 2.0d and noticed a major slow down as well. After reflashing it, I seemed to be back to the same speed I was at with his other rom. Have you tried reflashing to see if that might help?

Yeah before flashing anything i always make a Nandroid and wipe everything..then flash the rom.. i was flopping around between Buufed and fresh for about a week.. i flashed fresh in, flash in (from what i could read) the best kernel for that ROM and ran with fresh for about 3 days.. still that rom is 6 times faster the stock software, however coming from buffed it couldnt match speeds, even with a kernel running at the same overclock speed (768MHz).. so i flashed Buufed back in, researched some more, then reflashed the ROM because i had read just what you had told me.. reflashing took care of a lot of force closing issues i had had with some simple apps that never game me issues before, but it didnt do much for speed.. I really think HTC sense boggs down the system to much.. at one point when i was still unrooted with my hero Sense would take anywhere between 13-24% of my cpu power..
Currently im running Buufed 2.1.5 and im loving it. New themes and everything!
Thanks all for the comments though!

Re: Fresh Rom 2.3.3.. not fast enough!!??

I experienced some of the same things, apps causing FC that I never had issues with and the sluggishness, and ended up reflashing and it made all the difference. Not sure why exactly that's been the case for many of us. I've been reading a great deal on home replacement apps and finally made the jump to Pandahome. It seems to run a bit quicker and I love all the theme customizations I can make with it.
