You initially didn't have to wipe between 2.1 roms, but the newer ones have some new crazy shit that makes them incompatible with old versions and most other roms (such as flashing from fresh to damagecontrol). General rule for me: Do a wipe unless explicitly told in the rom thread by the dev or the rom's website that it is not necessary.

Yeah I still stayed with fresh but I'm gonna wipe everytime now, it'll be one less thing to worry about
