turn the phone off and still use wifi?

I was in a bldg today where I don't get any sprint service but they have a wifi network set up and I wanted to shut the phone radio off so I don't kill my battery but turn on wifi so I could surf the web.

I looked and looked but could not find it anywhere. Thanks in advance.

Should work I don't see why it wouldn't your not using your radio no more you will be using wifi two completely different things.

I normally just hold the power button, and then the option menu to turn off phone etc and such pops up, then i toggle airplane mode, turn on wifi manually or via widget, that is how i use wifi with the phone at times.

I tried that but airplane mode seems to disable the ability to turn the wifi on. Like it's turning the entire radio off. ](*,) Thanks CaliBoy.

i just turn data off then turn wifi on!!!.

Hello,

I will be traveling overseas and wanted to use Fring for Skype calls. The confusion I have is some of the countries I will be traveling to offer Roaming CDMA connections.

How do I just turn on WiFi without having the phone accidentally roam on a CDMA network? Using stock Sprint ROM.

You can put it into Airplane mode.

Airplane mode turns off all connections on the Hero - you can't cut on Wi-Fi in Airplane mode.

Think I figured it out. Settings > Wireless controls > Mobile Network Settings and turn off "Data Roaming". Could also set "Roaming" to Sprint Only.

I've said this before... I'm not sure but I use beautiful widgets and i have my wifi setup ok... so make sure I have it set, I add the beautiful widget for wifi toggle, out the phone into airplane mode and then i push the wifi widget and it triggers it correctly. try it.
