Re: New to the Hero - Help Please
I'm gonna write this and put it in the tips thread because I learned how to do it last night.
Go to outlook. File, import/export Export to a file, next. Click comma separated values, next. Pick a folder and name it whatever you want. Click next and finish. Type gmail.com/contacts and sign in. Import csv file, and choose your file. With Windows 7 and no outlook you can export from file explorer and windows contacts, it is a little different but easier. Open file explorer and browse to windows contacts Choose all windows contacts you want and click export at the top of file explorer. Choose Comma Separated Values or CSV. Open gmail.com/contacts and import csv file. Choose the one you saved it as and you will be good to go. No More Outlook/HTC Sync! Ahhh the air is fresher out here haha.

Re: New to the Hero - Help Please
Thanks for your help but I don't want to sync with gmail, I just want to get my old contacts from my old winmo phone off of outlook and on my hero. Any ideas.
Thanks again. |

however if you insist on not using it, there is a program called HTC Sync on the memory card your Hero came with, that is a piece of bridge software to install on your computer that is supposed to get outlook talking to your hero

Re: New to the Hero - Help Please
Reason not to use google for contacts:
My wife has a Moment and I exported all her contacts from outlook to a file and then imported them to google and her contacts are not formatted right. Also, she gets calls from people that she has as a contact, they are synced to her phone through google and the number does not associate with the contact. Very frustrating. I am going to have to go contact by contact and fix each one. I have over 400 contacts right now and that will take forever. JBEARAMUS, I am trying to use HTC Sync...I have installed it on my computer but when I plug the phone in it does not connect with it. It tries to install to the computer but then starts looking to install ADB. I cannot find a file to make that work. It never connects to HTC Sync and therefore, no contact sync. Thanks guys for the quick responses. I have some learning to do coming from winmo and was up really late last night trying to get this to work. Now I am off to work with only 4 hours sleep and still no contacts. Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

Re: New to the Hero - Help Please
I just realized something....I was having problems getting my internet to work so we did a hard reset this morning. I wonder if that had something to do with it connecting today.

Re: New to the Hero - Help Please
shouldn't have made a difference if HTC Sync was working correctly, it shouldve still detected the phone it would just run through setup again as if it were a brand new phone
