What is easiest way to speed up the Hero?

What is the easiest way to speed up the functionality of the Hero without rooting the phone or making any rom changes?

Prayer! Ok, J/K. Well, kind of...

Out of curiousity, why are you unwilling to root or flash a custom ROM? It is really easy, if you follow the directions step by step, and the results are well worth the little effort needed.

ummm...pray to the phone gods?

wait for the evo or nexus one?

how about root the sucker, throw on fresh 2.1 with apps2sd to free up internal storage. install autokiller and set to extreme to free up as much ram as you can. seriously man, you have to root to get the most out of the phone.

Re: What is easiest way to speed up the Hero?

try advanced task killer, it will free up program memory or force stop aps that are not in use. however, android is made to close programs after an extended period of time and just take the memory from programs that are not in use when it needs it. so...in short some will probably disagree, but it might help a little. also if you are wanting faster web browsing, some would argue that wifi is faster than 3g (don't know if I agree) but again, worth a try. are there certain things that you would like to perform faster specifically?

Yes it will void your warranty. I'm rooted, love it. Hopefully, if there's something wrong with my phone, I'll still be in the position to unroot it, bat my baby browns and say, "why sir, I don't know what happened, it's just not working!"

I've been rooting phones since, gasp, the Shadow. Love having the newest ROMS. I did lots of reading before I jumped in though.

Best of luck.

It is unlocking basically. Yes it will. Look at my Tips and Tricks thread or get the kitchen from geekfor.me

Re: What is easiest way to speed up the Hero?

Naturally if you unroot it before you turn the device in for service than the warranty is restored

Re: What is easiest way to speed up the Hero?

Reading this thread title I assumed you were already rooted. So you want to get your feet wet and speed up the hero eh? Before you root anything make sure to do some research. There is a program called fresh kitchen, grab the newest version from geekfor.me . All you need to do is hit one button and boom! your rooted. Wish it was that easy for me I had to use the ADB method which allowed me to learn a few things on my own at the same time, but you have to thank Flipz for making things easy for people.

Once rooted you can flash any rom you like; However, studies have shown that there isn't a noticible difference in speed when comparing 2.1 roms against each other. Same goes for the 1.5 roms. But i'm assuming... 1.5 roms are faster than 2.1, unless your running an overclocked rom with JIT and a2sd. Oh and Good Luck Rooting
