Grainy Camera pictures

I am having some serious quatliy issues with the camera on my Hero. I set the ISO to 800 and did another tip (cant remember what it was). But, still my pictures are all grainy and crappy looking for a 5 meg camera. Anyone got any other tips to help me fix this.

Re: Grainy Camera pictures

Maybe its just a placebo but i've noticed a difference (good) in picture quality with the fresh 2.1 and damage 2.1 roms.... Always recommend fresh roms for stability to anyone though.

Can anyone confirm this? Maybe its just a placebo effect for me.

Re: Grainy Camera pictures

Yeah I am HEAVILY disappointed by the camera...it's a damn 5mp. I loved my old 3.2mp Touch Pro's camera, it took far better pictures (and honesty has one of my favorite phone cam's to date). I wish I could slap the Touch Pro's keyboard and camera into the hero and it'd be the perfect device.

Re: Grainy Camera pictures

Hero has a great camera. Low light, set it to 200 ISO. Change the white balance to match the setting and see what happens.

Re: Grainy Camera pictures

The pictures are grainy because you're using ISO 800.

The higher the ISO, the grainier the pictures. That is true of all cameras. ISO 800 from a modern point and shoot digicam is only slightly better than what you're seeing.

Set your ISO to auto and keep it there unless you're getting a blurry image - then go in and force it to 400 or 800 and try again.

If you're shooting at ISO 200 and the camera needs to have a relatively long shutter time of 1/10 s, you will almost certainly get a blurry image. Setting it to ISO 800 will result in a grainier picture, but you'll be shooting at 1/40 s, which has a much better chance of not being blurry.

If you don't know what ISO means or does, you should leave it alone.

Re: Grainy Camera pictures

Yeah I have no idea what ISO is and i honestly dont care - haha.

What I do care about is setting it to auto and have a 5 Meg picture (point and shoot). But, that wasnt the case - That is why I started searching for a way to make the pictures better. I do know my HTC Diamond took awesome pictures, without me knowing anything about camera settings. So, I guess it is what it is with this phone. Kind of a bummer.

precisely, the Touch Pro also had a great "hands off" camera taking experience. Idk what they did wrong with the hero. but I really hope that the Evo's 8mp camera doesn't just take piles of doo doo that are burdened with even larger filesizes
