Lil help plz. Wanting to flash Hero.

I am trying to flash the Fresh ROM to my phone. Phone is rooted and I believe I flashed the recovery image ok as there is now an extra recovery file on my SD Card. Anyways, every time I hold down the home key while powering up, I am forced into a screen with three droids on skateboards and am forced to to "clear" the phone and restart it. I am guessing this is a hard reset. You will have to forgive me as I have been away and stuck with a blackberry for a while.
I'm not sure what I did but the phone was going into the screen that has wipe and all that on it but as soon as I tried to restart so I could flash the ROM, I have been getting the droids on skateboards screen ever since. Sorry if I missed it somewhere but, like I said, I have been away for quite some time and need the cob webs dusted off a lil.
