A Few Questions for the Pros

Hey guys, I have been lurking these forums FOREVER and they are a endless pool of great information, I have never had to post or make a thread because all the info I need is just sitting here waiting for me, so I would like to start by thanking you all.

So i made the switch from Windows Mobile (TP) to the Hero, and I have no regrets this thing is the bomb. But I have a few issues I was hoping one of you could help me out with.

First, when I try to copy over a recovery image so I can load Fresh I -always- get the Not Enough Memory error, no matter what. I have reset the phone and done it with a clean slate both through a terminal emulator and also via terminal on the PC using the SDK tools, and I just havent been able to get this to work! Any ideas?

Second, I have approx. 14,000 SMS on the phone already, and I can tell its running a bit slower then it should. Now I use the SMS Backup App so they are all saved to GMAIL, no sense in keeping them on the phone especially if deleting them will give me a performance enhancement...

So I have tried the "Delete all threads" option in Handcent, and it always crashes the App and sure enough they are all there again when I reboot/reload the app, and I have selected/deleted all the threads with the stock Messaging app and the same thing happens. So what can I do to clear my SMS history?

Re: A Few Questions for the Pros

You can try to go into Applications>Manage Applications>Handcent or Messages and clear all data.

That should work.

BTW, quick question, I just realized that SMS Backup has been the culprit over the past few days draining my battery. Do you have the same issue? It's not allowing the phone to sleep at all, whereas it should only be polling for texts every 30 minutes or so.

If the above option doesnt work for you, download freshs kitchen. It has a delete/back up sms option that works like a charm.

Also, are you copying over the .zip to the root of the memory card?

Re: A Few Questions for the Pros

For first question, Reboot PC and Phone. Then do it again.

Second, if you don't need 14000 smses do what kbus said and delete through the kitchen.

2.5, EDIT: I just saw that you tried with stock too. I think the only option is kitchen at this point.

Re: A Few Questions for the Pros

You can use the built-in Messages app to clear the messages.

Handcent doesn't give me a Clear Data option, just uninstall, and doing it on the Messages app doesn't do squat-diddly. And I did notice that SMS Backup drained the battery alot faster, so I ended up uninstalling it. I figure I can install it and let it do a full backup before i clear my data out every time as soon as I figure out how to do that.

@kbussen: Im not trying to copy the zip over, im trying to copy the .img file (I don't think it even came zipped)
@thacounty: I have tried rebooting pc and phone multiple times, still get the same error.

Another issue I have noticed, just wondering if this happens to you all, when I have my Hero charging, the touchscreen sucks balls, I cant do anything accurately (I usually can't even get passed the Lock)

I've seen that on a variety of capacitive touchscreen devices with cheap, improperly grounded transformer/chargers.

Are you using the included charger or an aftermarket one?

I am using the charger that came with my HTC Touch Pro, because as far as I can tell its the same as the one I got with my Hero. Maybe I'll pull out the new one and see if that fixes the issue.

Ok, to install fresh, all you have to do is download the .zip, copy it to your SD card, power off your phone, hold the home button and then press and hold the power key, Once it opens up the root menu, select "Apply sdcard: choose.zip" Select the fresh 1.1 zip and then hit the home key. It will flash the rom and once finished it will return back to the main menu, select reboot system now.
