Did you try PDAnet? I downloaded the free version from market and it works just fine.

thats not true...

my hero is bone stock and im tethering..there is a way to trick the phone to slow it down so you can connect. most of the people here get the error code when you simply click the share internet button on your phone...because sprint does not allow tether.... BUT..there is a way around it... switch your mode to 1x first (you switch to 1x because that slows your connection from what i read online)...then connect your usb cable to the computer.... once its connected, let it finish loading the usb connections etc on your computer...once all that is done, goto wireless networks from your phone and click to UNCHECK the "mobile network" so you are no longer connected online through your phone...then once that is completely turned off, click "mobile network" again AND quickly click "mobile network sharing"... if you did it correctly and quickly, the internet and mobile network sharing should both be connected. if it is wrong or not done quick enough, you will get the error code and will have to repeat the process......

sorry if the directions are all bunched up, but i initially wasnt going to explain it, ended up doing it anyways.... there should be an article in XDA forum about this..thats where i learned it from....

anyhow... i connect using that method all the time and it works fine... when i look up my account on sprint, i used over 8gb already...lmao

EDIT: FORGOT to mention after everything is connected, SWITCH IT BACK TO HYBRID! otherwise your connection will be slow as shit!

Re: tether hero?

I would honestly just root your Hero, I have a MiFi with the 5GB cap and I use my rooted Hero instead with no cap, I get 2mbps, I was able to watch football via slingplayer using my Hero.

This thread comes up once a week! Search next time bro. I know when you typed in tether at least 3 threads came up before letting you start your thread.

Re: tether hero?

o and thacountry theres a reason why they allow open data transpher on the 1x line... no one uses it ne more the 230k down is the limit cause its tech from the mid 90s before evdo was made. basically its sprints fallback network like the 2g at&t uses. its mainly used just for places where there arnt enough people to bother with putting up an expensive antenna or they just havnt upgraded because of that fact. i for one would never cripple my self to an old dsl connection like that

Re: tether hero?

forgot to mention, switch it back to hybrid mode..otherwise your connection will be stuck on 1x. you can switch it to evdo if you like, but you will miss all your calls...

Re: tether hero?

Root the Hero and download Fresh's Rom 1.1 from XDA-Developers and it will have the Tether and some really nice features as well. BEST SOLUTION.
