No, you said rooting was an exploit. Rooting is gaining unrequited access to every fundamental piece of the operating system with no security measure between you and a bricked or heavily modified piece of hardware/software which is achieved through an exploit in remounting the file system and changing the user mode to that a superuser. Significantly different.

Re: sprint hero questions

yea, exactly. The root is gained via an exploit. Meaning rooting your phone is an EXPLOIT. I don't think google ever intended us to have SU (root access) now did they?

Yes they did. Open source means the source is open. Sprint doesn't want you to brick your phone and htc doesn't want you to change the work they've done. Google wants you to do whatever the hell you want. Go to XDA and search for AOSP.

Re: sprint hero questions

Ok, i'll agree with you there.. it's htc and sprint that doesn't want you to have SU. It's STILL an exploit. It's all beside the point. The guy asked questions and i answered them to the best of my knowledge. What i should have said was that Rooting your phone is achieved by an exploit and allows you SU access to the root system files so they can be rewritten. So thanks for pointing out how i am technically incorrect. What it is exactly really doesn't matter. Dude just wants to hear that it allows you to customize the phone. If he wants to root his phone and pirate every single app on his phone i could care less. I'm not gunna tell him how to do it, but i don't think it's against the the sites rules to say YES it can be done and yes it is quite easy.
