low memory?

OK, like I've said before I'm new to this whole PPC thing so try to bear with me, and sorry if this has been gone over before but I couldn't find anything on it. I'm running Flash's 1.0 Rom, and in Linda Task Manager it says I have 509M/7576M. This seems really low, since I dont have all that many apps. And my keyboard is lagging like crazy (I have Handcent btw). I always back out of apps or close them if there is an option. I've heard alot about formatting or partitioning the SD card, but don't know if/when to do this. Been thinking maybe I should Reroot and start over? Any ideas?

Re: low memory?

is that memory readout for the internal memory or sdcard? Also, handcent lags the shit out of your phone. in addition to that, it is completely unecessary to use a task killer. They lag your phone and murder your phone's sleep time.

Re: low memory?

Thats for the SD card. I as yet haven't figured out how to check the internal memory. So you're saying I don't need Linda or Astro? Astro came with the Rom, didn't wanna axe it just in case. Is there a better way to delete unwanted apps than a task manager?Sorry bout all the dumbass questions...

Astro is a file manager. Thats different from a task manager. It has one built in, but there is no need to use it. Also, installing apps (unless you are using apss2sd) does not affect the sd card at all. You can delete apps through the marketplace in "My Downloads" or in Astro under the program manager. A task kill is a program that you can view all the apps and processes that are currently running and choose to kill them. Most people do this in an effort to save cpu, but the way android handles cpu alotment makes it unecessary. Most Task killer applications are constantly running in a way that causes the phone to not go to sleep. This murders your battery.

so, to recap
  • Astro is not only a great application, but for people like me and most other ppcgeekers, 100% necessary.
  • if you have astro, you don't need linda
  • Task killer apps are used to kill running processes and are completely unecessary due to the way android handles memory allocation (efficiently)

I'm pretty sure the memory readout you are reading is memory USED and not memory AVAILABLE. To be sure, plug the phone into a computer and, in the notification panel, click on mount sd card. Your sdcard will then show up as a removable disk. Right click on it in "My Computer" and hit properties. All should be clear after that.

LOL its cool. Android is the only experience most people have ever had with linux. The limited experience i do have with it does come in handy though.

Re: low memory?

If it helps, I use Task Panel for killing apps, and i maintain about an 8% awake time constantly. Ive read of others having much much more, but I have no issues with Task Panel, I reallly think ya'll should check it out an see whatcha think!! Just my two hillbilly cents lol

Re: low memory?

So now my phone is running even slower. not just handcent, but everything. I'm at 16% awake time, which is up from about 6 earlier today. I'm gonna test flipz new auto rooter here in a minute, and maybe that'll help. otherwise, any suggestions? I keep reading about people who are so happy how fast their phone is now, and mine's doing nothing but slowing down...

Are you still backing out of your apps with the back button?
