what's the point of running this when we got the update recently? and can you run Fresh ROM from this?

Short answer: Yes

This is the first thing you had to flash to run nandroid. This is an updated version that is much better IMHO.

to do this, you have to go through the whole setup of erasing everything and then running command prompt with the commands and backing up and flashing? dang... you guys are dedicated!!! how long does it take you to do all this???

Nope. hook up pc

adb push recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.1.img /sdcard/

Then flash it. I updated the flash image instructions in my tips thread. It doesn't erase anything. Took me 45 seconds tops.
