WiFi tether has the option to bluetooth tether also, although I have never tried it. It gets pretty hot, but it has never shut down on me.

Try using BT PAN (personal area network) to connect. It's really easy to set up, and usually lets you choose a personalized 4 pin code for security. The BT chip will (typically) not heat the phone up as much because it draws a LOT less power from the battery. When lithium-ion batterys get hot, they tend to stop charging....or slow down significantly with charging. This can cause your phone to be outputting more energy than it can take it. It won't happen at first, but as your battery goes through more recharge cycles, it will start becoming an issue. If you could do me a favor and try out BT PAN tethering and let me know if it is significantly cooler or not I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks country!

haha, i always read it as "country"....to funny. I really havent found a reason to root yet other than the tethering. I like the idea of theming my phone, but I havent learned enough about these phones yet to feel comfortable editing system files. I know the windows os, but android is still rather new to me.

Different lockscreens, different animations, screenshot apps, move cache to storage card, A2SD2 (which I don't use), snappier device are my main reasons.

Haha I know I like mine being rooted! Yea I am the same way! Seems flipzmode has something up his sleeve for .8! Because it seems to cause so many problems. If the card becomes corrupt you have to re-download all apps. I have heard of people waking up and having all their apps icons just be cogs, not working at all. It causes more problems than it is worth, and storage isn't a huge problem anyway.

No dice on Bluetooth tethering with ubuntu, and I didn't get to try Windows Vista, but I know the Hero didn't have the ability to do much with bluetooth out of the box, I don't know if that has been fixed. Last night my phone didn't even get hot tethering, I have no idea what was going on, usually it is 120 degrees haha.

Re: Why is my Hero so slow?

Hey, I "back out" of apps, but when I hold the home key, they still show up in the background. Is backing out really any different than just hitting the home key?

Holding the home key doesn't show apps that are running. That is apps that you have used recently.
