Why is my Hero so slow?

Alright, I'm new to the Hero, but I already love it. I came from an HTC Diamond running WM6.5, and the Hero was SO much faster, at least it WAS. I've got TaskPanel installed, I tried a couple of others, and it still drops below 30mb of memory in about 10 minutes of use. I've rooted it and tries the Fresh 0.7 and 0.6 ROMs, and it still goes slower than Christmas for a 5 year old. The stock ROM is just as bad with the memory leaks, does anyone have any ideas on how to keep the memory?

Re: Why is my Hero so slow?

Do you have a lot of apps installed? Also, are you backing out of programs, or just pressing the home key?

Re: Why is my Hero so slow?

I've uninstalled a whole bunch of programs and the problem persists. I usually back out of apps, should I be using the home button?

I have never experienced any slowness with my Hero.

You have the latest stock rom and have experienced some kind of memory leak? Can you elaborate? Did you Hero do this out of the box? Are you using TaskPanel to kill apps? That may not be a good idea. Certain apps have close or quit buttons located under the Menu. If apps don't have a close or quit, I simply back out of them when I am done with the back button. That seems to stop processes from constantly running.

Good luck!

No, backing out is the correct way if you want them to close. Have you tried a hard reset? Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

Re: Why is my Hero so slow?

You aren't using bluetooth are you? That problem should be fixed with the Fresh roms. I suggest Fresh .7 with patch 2 installed.

If you are having slowing problems, make sure you don't have all your widgets downloading every minute as this will slow the phone.

ATK is known to be the hero's nemesis, get an app like Task Panel or Task Manager 1.10.1 (or whatever the latest build is)

All autokilling makes the phone run slower as it has to run that app all the time.

Re: Why is my Hero so slow?

Having Sprints music widget on one of my home screens seems to cause my phone to lag bad.

Really? I don't have this problem. Is it the big one or the small one?

Re: Why is my Hero so slow?

Sorry the HTC widget - the little one. I had put it on a few days ago, using it just to control podcasts, on the same screen I also had BeyondPod's widget too. I was getting a lot of lag so I removed the BeyondPods figuring that it kept trying to update the smart play list. Things did get a little better but not back to normal.

So I removed the HTC widget and poof it's all fine. Most of the problems seemed to be happening when the device would be waking up. I wonder if it's reindexing the SD card or something.

You mean it was on the Home screen? That could be the problem, mine is one to the right of home and it doesn't slow the phone. I don't think. I will try removing it and see if it speeds up.
