@lwrdrchvy2...that didn't help...when i installed it it changed the battery icon and i still don't have a speaker icon...by the way great avatar.

maybe i'm not meant to have a speaker icon...

try reinstalling the taskbar itself after installing that cab.

no still missing speaker icon...i guess somehow the battery icon and the speaker icon are connected...because whenever i try to change the battery icon the speaker icon disappears...it's there with the stock taskbar.

also when i go to the start menu it just shows a black box where the speaker icon is suppose to be.

What rom and taskbar are you currently using?

stock rom and the djc taskbar v.4 it's based on Tsowen's Taskbar. but i've tried other ones with the same result...now i can't uninstall it.

Give this a try, from the thread at xda...Volume icon bug:
The new 1.66 ROM's seems to have a bug with volume icon. When installing a new battery icon, the volume icon disappears.
Solution:
Just delete these reg-keys to get volume icon back with custom taskbar:

[HKLM/Software/HTC/VolumeOverlay]
LoadIconFromResDLL
SoundIconLink

install it again and it will uninstall then try it fresh start
