microusb fatigue and batteries/chargers

Howdy all,

Q:
How many insertion\separations is a microusb jack rated for? (My htc apache miniusb has failed and I just retired it for the shift. I got the apache in 2006 but immediately stuck a big battery on it which meant that didn't connect the usb as much\often as I might have.

I'm concerned that the microusb could fail long before I'm interested in replacing the phone.

As a strategy, I'm considering other batteries and an external charger.

Q2:
Who makes\sells good batteries\chargers for the evo shift? Any significant extended batteries?

Thx,

Rick

Re: microusb fatigue and batteries/chargers

I'm very satisfied with the (allegedly) 2000mAh battery made by Galilio and sold on eBay. It is the standard size. It is advertised for the Evo and Touch Pro 2 (T7373), but works for the Evo Shift as well.

That Galilio battery is actually about 1400mah, a bit less than the stick battery but still a great deal.

Re: microusb fatigue and batteries/chargers

Wow OP you keep your phones for a long time. I think I've had at least 8 devices since the Apache, LOL. You might be the 10-sigma case for microUSB wear-and-tear.

Personally I'm not looking for extra batteries, mainly because the back of the shift is so hard to remove that I'm afraid the clips will snap into pieces eventually. But if anyone is swapping Shift batteries on a regular basis, I'm curious how the battery cover is faring under all that R/R. While the new style cover makes it harder to swap batteries and microSD cards, it certainly fixes the "battery-door-coming-off-when-pulling-phone-from-jeans-pocket" that I've experienced with other devices.

The microSD slot is supposedly rated for quite a number of plugging cycles. If it makes you uneasy, take a file and file down the little teeth on the connector (on the cable end, not your phone) ever so slightly. I have some cables that are just easier to insert than others. I did that on a cable for my wife's iPhone after one cable pulled out of its connector.

Re: microusb fatigue and batteries/chargers

wow, the usb on the apache was notorious for failure. congrats.
based on what I've seen so far with microUSB, the plug/wire is more likely to fail than the jack on the phone.
