[HOW TO] Use the Evo Shift 4G as a mobile hotspot
To use your HTC EVO Shift 4G as a wireless router, make sure that your phone has an active connection with the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network (EVDO), the Sprint 1xRTT data network or Sprint 4G.
Here's how:
Press menu > tap sprint hotspot > on the introduction screen tap OK > enter a new name in the Router name (SSID) text box or use the default router name > select a network security method from the Security list; if you selected WEP, WPA or WPA2, enter a network key (password) in the Password box > select the Sprint Mobile Hotspot check box at the top of the screen to turn on the wireless router
When Sprint Mobile Hotspot is active and is ready to share its 3G connection (EVDO, 1xRTT), the 3G hotspot icon appears in the status bar. When Sprint Mobile Hotspot is active and is ready to share its Sprint 4G connection, the 4G hotspot icon appears in the status bar.
After setting up your phone as a wireless hotspot, connect your computer to your EVO Shift's Sprint Mobile Hotspot
For a Windows 7 computer:
Click on the wireless network icon in the right side of your taskbar; if you do not see the wireless network icon, you can also go to start > control panel > network and internet > connect to a network
A window showing all available network connections will open > select the Sprint Mobile Hotspot name (or SSID) > click connect > enter the network key (if any) that you used when setting up Sprint Mobile Hotspot > click OK
For a Windows Vista computer:
Click start > connect to > in the connect to a network dialog box, select the Sprint Mobile Hotspot name (or SSID) > click connect > enter the network key (if any) that you used when setting up Sprint mobile hotspot > click connect > click close
