Could you try flashing the 2.2 rru and then rooting from there?

As others have stated, the 2.3.3/4 Evo's are currently stuck without a root method.
I am sure in time it will be done though, so don't give up hope buddy. On a side note, even though this question has been beaten more times then Whitney Houston, I like how we here at PPCGEEKS just simply answer the question without being rude. That is why I love this place and it is my favorite Mobile Device forum.
