Root. There are many threads on how to do it.

Maybe if you never compleat the rooting process. Why dont you just root it? I dont see how you would permitnatly loose data. as soon as you load a new ROM it would overwrite the data settings. Best person to ask specifically about that would be OMJ who creates ROMs for the Evo 4G.

Re: Evo 4G Help

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but the hboot and radio look to be off the new 2.3 GB OTA update so I don't think he's going to be able to root the phone.

Have you tried factory resetting the phone and seeing what that does? Have you called Sprint and had them try and help you fix it by factory resetting it and provisioning it and all that great stuff?

Yea sprints take on it is it will never have data again. I took it down to the store and the techs had in the back for a hour. I tried rooting it with revoke it said firmware was to new or something along those lines. the guy i got it from said he was gonna issue a refund but i havent heard from him since. I opened a claim with ebays buyer protection they said he has seven days to respond or ill get a full refund from ebay since the phone was listed as perfect used condition and did not mention anything not functioning correctly.

But Thank you guys for all your help i have another one on the way hope to have better luck with this one.
