Question Help Unrooting Evo. Don't know if Unrevoked was used to root.

I checked the thread on unrooting and it says there are two ways to do so. One being if you used unrevoked to root it, and the other being if you didn't.

I bought the phone off criagslist and it came with S-OFF. I want it to have S-ON. Which way should I use...?

Okay, so now when I try to boot my phone into RECOVERY it sits at a black screen with a phone device and then a large red triangle with an exclamation point inside it over the picture of the phone.

Soooo, wtf, how do I flash the zip if I can't even get into RECOVERY...?

Re: Help Unrooting Evo. Don't know if Unrevoked was used to root.

Okay, after searching around it seems like thats the image for stock recovery, in other words, there isnt one. So how the hell do I unroot my phone? I have to re-root it so I can have a custom recovery, and then flash unrevoked and transfer the PCIMG36?

I just want to run the OTA update for 2.3 but it says S-OFF and I heard that could bring your phone. S-OFF is pretty much saying the phone is rooted, correct?

Re: Help Unrooting Evo. Don't know if Unrevoked was used to root.

s-OFF means you're rooted. You need unrevoked forever to to relock it. If you want to stay rooted and want custom recovery like clockworkmod or amon-ra just flash it as a the PCIMG36.zip. I will post links if you are unable to find them when I get the chance. Hopefully someone jumps in before then.

Re: Help Unrooting Evo. Don't know if Unrevoked was used to root.

I want to be to to unrooted, and stock, so I can download the OTA 2.3 update. I have the two files required to unroot. But the instructions say to flash using recovery. When I go into recovery it gives me the red exclamation point inside a red triangle, indicating that it is stock recovery. I need a custom recovery to flash anything.

Basically I am apprently rooted with S-ON, but I don't have a custom recovery. How do I get one so I can flash unrevoked S-ON tool and transfer the PCIMG36

Re: Help Unrooting Evo. Don't know if Unrevoked was used to root.

OKAY! Since I could not flash anything because I don't have a custom recovery, I just downloaded the PCIMG36 file and transfered it to the root of my SD card, ejected my phone from the computer, powered it off, then powered it back on into HBOOT.

The list says:

Parsing...[SD ZIP]
[1]BOOTLOADER Bypassed
[2]RADIO_V2 OK
[3]BOOT OK
[4]RECOVERY OK
[5]SYSTEM OK
[6]USERDATA OK
[7]MICROP OK
[8]SPLASH1 OK
[9] WIMAX OK
Update complete...
Do you want to reboot device?

I chose yes.

I'll edit this post once its finished rebooting, and then I'll load up HBOOT again and see if it says S-ON.

I hooooooope soooooo....

So you're saying all I Ned is to download that file, put it on the SD and boot into HBOOT and it will be S-ON and the phone can safely download the OTA Update...?
