Re: Hboot 2.16 can I root evo
The new ota can't be rooted yet. In the future, if you're rooted never accept an ota. Usually within a couple of hours of the release the new software had been modified for root users to install through recovery.

Re: Hboot 2.16 can I root evo
If u want to try the ota gb update, use unrevoked forever & kust leave the bootloader unlocked,s-off,then u can still flash back to watevr rom u like, stock or custom.Thats what i did & aftr seein how little the gb update actually did on my Evo i am now, finally, using a custom rom again. Im using MikGs Sense 2.1/3.0 version 2.2,GB 2.3.3 rom,& it runs great, way better than stock Evo 2.3.3, & it has Sense 2.1 & some Sense 3.0 too. Way cooler than stock Evo GB Sense. Just leave s-off & u can always roll back tk another, rooted or unrooted stock roms,or custom roms, whatever u like. Just remember to flash unrevoked forevers s-on zip before returning your Evo to Sprint for warranty or insurance repair/work. Thats what i do so.i can try ota updates then roll back or switch to a custom rom again

Re: Hboot 2.16 can I root evo
The thing is that not everyone can get the stock OTA 2.3 with S-Off, I had to put S-On before I was offered it, but I had to lock my phone up because I had to take it in to get looked at, so unfortunately I'm stuck until they <even if they are going to> figure out a way to root it again, man I hope they get it working soon I'm going through flash withdrawals lol.

Re: Hboot 2.16 can I root evo
What i am reading here is that there is no way to roll back to an earlier ROM, even a stock unrooted one!? I lost root when I went to Froyo OTA and rolled back to Eclair and rooted. Then I installed a rooted version of Froyo.
Since then, I have never lost root and have been on Deck's GB for over 6 months. Have you guys tried installing a stock RUU of Froyo? If you can get to Froyo, then you can root with UnRevoked. Then install one of the Rooted GBs that are out there. Of course both my phones are HBoot 210.0001 so it may be a bootloader thing.

Question, does anyone know if you take your phone in for repairs and you are not running the latest OTA update are they (sprint) going to force you to update?
