can't perform HTC Software update

My phone is running the stock rom and not rooted or anything. I want to download the gingerbread update. However, when i go to system updates>HTC Software update>check now, i get the "checking..." pop up and the animated loading wheel, but it never gets anywhere. It just sits there indefinitely. Never finds an update or never goes away saying "no updates" or anything until i hit the back button. Any ideas?

Re: can't perform HTC Software update

Here's what I had to do before I got the update - update PRL, update Profile, restart the EVO, turn off wifi and use 3G. It might be coincidence, but after that, I tried the HTC software update a few times (about 4-5 times) and it finally found the update.
(in my case, it kept telling me that my EVO was up to date - in your case, it looks like it is getting stuck - a restart might fix it)

If that doesn't work, and you don't want to wait for the update to be pushed out, you could try a hard reset - no guarantees that it will work though. Sorry.. Maybe some others have more suggestions.

Re: can't perform HTC Software update

long story short, was trying to get a 1click root on phone with z4 (perm) and gingerbreak. both no luck. I had been checking for few days for software updates as well with no luck. I did a complete wipe and was in middle of unrevoked when I found this thread. Rebooted phone, didn't sync and only set up wifi and the update was there.

Found, downloaded and installed update after a factory reset using wifi.

Use appbrain to sync your market apps if you want them back after wipe

A buddy of mine had the same issue, his fix was to do a hard reset and that did the trick for him.

Re: can't perform HTC Software update

i have a rooted EVO with sprint basics ROM, i got the message about an update, but it keeps saying file corrupt when i try to download it? Can you update if you are rooted or do you have to revert back to stock rom? thanks.
