I really don't understand the aversion to holding the phone in landscape...its how I have the phone the majority of the time...especially when web browsing, then I don't have to zoom in and out as much.

Have you tried calibration of the keyboard while in portrait? My evo is real good now... menu / settings / keyboard settings / touch input / text input. Or something close like that! Good luck
