4G Issues, Please Help

I live in New Orleans (No 4G yet) but I am currently in Pittsburgh going to have a kidney transplant on Thursday. I really want to get my 4G working since it will be my only source of internet while I am in the hospital.

When I turn 4G on, it constantly cycles "Turning on" and "Turning off"

This is what I am running:

Rooted Evo Hardware Version 0003
Android 2.2
Baseband 2.15.00.11.19
Kernel 2.6.32.17-gee557fd htc-kernel@and18-2 #15
Build number Calkulin's EViO 2 ROM v1.7.5
Software 3.70.651.1
PRI Version 1.90_003
PRL 60674
Wimax Version 4.6.2.3v27167

Thanks in advance for any help. I am a bit desperate since I will be in the hospital starting Thursday for about 2 weeks and still in Pittsburgh for about an entire month. I would love to get this working and I think the constant toggle of 4G is going to destroy my battery life and I can't get it to stop.

Thanks again.

Re: 4G Issues, Please Help

First do this, Download WiMAX RSA Key Checker from the market and see if your RSA keys are in tact. If they are not, and you did not back up wimax.img when you did a nand backup than your 4g is broke and can't be fixed. If they are in tact the next step is to check your phones 4g mac address, do this by turning on 4g and then select menu/settings/about phone/hardware info and check the 4g mac address against the mac address that is printed on the sticker inside your phone under the battery. If they match then 4g can probably be fixed by flashing a new all in one rom like Sprint Lovers or the stock rom. If they don't match then try the instructions found here:

[GUIDE] Bad WiMax MAC? Broken 4G after update? Fix HERE! - xda-developers

Hopefully you can get it fixed with these steps, remember, if your RSA keys and MAC address are in tact then it is probably the rom or radio combo your using. If they aren't then try the MAC fix it posted or if its the RSA hopefully you can restore a nand backup that has your keys in it. If you don't have a nand backup with your RSA keys you phone is permanently broke for 4g and you will have to replace it.

Thanks for the advice. RSA Key is present. When I turn on 4G, it constantly cycles "turning on", and "turning off" so I can never actually check the MAC address since those options remain grayed out.

I just downloaded the latest sprint lovers and am going to flash it and try it out before I even do any backup restores of apps or settings.

I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks again.

Re: 4G Issues, Please Help

Are you using a non-HTC 4G switch widget, such as SwitchPro? That app likes to turn on the 4G radio when you reboot the phone. I'd uninstall that, or any non-HTC based 4G Switch. Then, reboot the phone, and you should go to 3G, and the 4G radio won't be on. From there, you can go into menu, settings, wireless & networks, and turn on 4G. Good luck.

I have tried using beautiful widgets, the notification bar toggles, as well as menu, settings, wireless & networks and nothing works.

Re: 4G Issues, Please Help

Ok, progress:

Flashed Sprint Lovers Rom
Got 4G to turn on
Now it scans, attempts to connect to Sprint and does not connect
I checked my MAC and compared it to the 4G MAC under the battery and they match.

Any ideas?

Re: 4G Issues, Please Help

Ok, walked to the window of the hotel and I got it to connect for 1 second then it dropped again and I cannot connect it anymore. I got super excited for the one second though. I don't know why it would not connect on my other rom. The hotel must have something going on to not let it connect so well.

Re: 4G Issues, Please Help

Apps and system settings restored and I still get it to turn on, now it's time to go outside and see if I can connect. It stinks that it wouldn't work with the other rom.

Anyone know if they can connect with OMJ's rom?

Re: 4G Issues, Please Help

Was this a stable fix?

I don't like the idea of going back to stock, but will do so if this works.
