So..Am I rooted?

Flashed unrevoked 3(newest) did so painlessly so I thought. Went into Hboot and see "S-OFF". Alright cool.

I then proceed to backup 4G wimax keys. This is when it gets confusing.

For the adb shell command I see the "$ instead of "#" I get "permission denied" AS WELL AS SU-"permission denied" when I try to run the cmd's.

I have the super user app and titanium backup and ROM manager both have super user permissions..

So I still want to back up 4g but I decide to go ahead and do nandroid backup. I didn't stay with clockwork recovery but instead switched to amonrah 1.8.

Navigated to recovery under the menus. Found nandroid backup and created my first backup.

Should I proceed to flash a ROM now?

I don't think you're fully rooted. I ran into the same problem and kept reflashing stock then running Unrevoked again until I got S-off, Super user, and #. You may be able run Unrevoked again without flashing back to stock until you get # instead of $, but I'm not entirely sure.

i think u already rooted. once u have s-off try to flash a custom rom

But OP isn't getting #. Like I said, I could get SU and S-off after running Unrevoked the first few times, but it took 4-5 attempts until I got the # instead of $.

I tried running unrevoked again and got firmware is too new error. So I guess I will try and flash back to stock again... which is the best way? Should I just download stock rom to my sd and do it through ROM manager?

If I did try to flash a custom rom without full su access would this damage/brick my phone or just not allow me to flash?

When I'd get that error, I'd reboot phone, reconnect the phone and run Unrevoked again, which worked. If you want to reflash stock, this is what I did.

Download the corresponding zip from the post linked below, rename it to PC36IMG.zip, put it on your SD cards root, and run it in Hboot after its verified. It'll ask if you'd like to do the update. Hit yes then select yes to reboot after it finishes. For me it was PC36IMG_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2 .15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.zip

Alright cool, you have been very helpful. I just wiped device and then ran unrevoked 3 again and supposedly was successful.

I tried the shell adb command this time to get the 4g keys and I still had $ so I tried "SU".

THIS TIME my phone prompted me to give it super user permissions and I allowed, last time it never did O_O.

Problem solved hopefully.
