Re: Gonna pick up my Evo in an hour
Since you just got the phone, I guarantee you have HBOOT 2.02 or 2.10. DON'T USE UNREVOKED. The current unrevoked will not work, and if it does... you probably just wiped out 4G.
You need to use this tutorial: [ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02/2.10 SOFF - The Savior Edition - Upd. 12.26.10 - xda-developers

Re: Gonna pick up my Evo in an hour
Hey guys thanks for the responses. I have Hboot 2.02 running 004 hardware. I will weight my options. I was reading up on the rooting from the thread here on PPC geeks for everything rooting and just didnt understand... Maybe my brain was fried or something but nothing was sinking in. Plus the link for the hboot 2.02 off was a dead link.

Re: Gonna pick up my Evo in an hour
dont bother rooting right away.
again, don't bother rooting right away. I came over from a touch pro 2 as well. You WILL love your new phone. I still get excited thinking about how much better the evo is compared to the touch pro 2. learn to use market. Understand how the android OS works. Learn about app2sd. You have a lot to learn, but it'll be worth it. Rooting your phone IS worth it, but there is not an immediate need to do so. It's not like the touch pro 2, where sprint stock is crap. The stock evo is a wonderful phone. |

Re: Gonna pick up my Evo in an hour
I'm also an X-TP user. I came over a month ago to the Evo, with the same HW and SW versions as you have. It is a change, that's for sure. It took me a lot of reading and re-reading the root thread over at XDA since the android terminology is so different than WinMo. But I got it done within the first couple of days. I wanted it done immediately so I could tether to my laptop as a modem. You can't do that without paying Sprint otherwise. And it works beautifully.
Anyway, here's a link to a post inside that XDA thread that may help. It's a more detailed step by step to complete the rooting. So same deal as the first post in that thread, just has more detail about how to do and where to get things. I wish that had been up before I rooted mine! |
