Tethering sleep mode?

I have an EVO, that I plan on tethering to a Galaxy Tab, and was wondering..

Is there anyway that I can keep both the TAB and EVO connected(tethered) all day, but have the connection "sleep" until I attempt to utilize the net on my tethered device(tab)?.

Bluetooth or Wifi is fine, if possible.
