Any other way to update software apart from ota?

My evo is 003 hardware version and when I check for update...it says no update available....but when I check the software version with the ones on htc website...my phone had an older version...any help is appreciated....I don't want custom rom or want to root

Be patient, it will come to your phone soon. My phone says its available if I want to download. Also, you can download the unrooted version here: OTA_supersonic_3.70 + full RUU - xda-developers

I would highly recommend against installing this OTA if you think you might ever want to root. Wireless tether, adding custom cities to your weather database, backing up your ROM, are just a few of the things you can do with a rooted ROM.
With the new Hboot upgrading to version 2.10 who knows how long it will take to root the device now.

XDA "root like a kitten" method can already root the Hboot 2.10 so no need to worry.

That's good to know about the hboot. Still the main reason for my post is to encourage rooting for all the other reasons.

I am not able to root using unrevoked 3.22 on either my windows or linux machine. I keep on getting "Validation Error: Backup CID is missing".
I am on 003 hw version, with hboot of 0.97
any other suggestions on how can i get it rooted?

If you be rooted, OTA is a 4 letter word. Wait for XDA.
