Re: Hey!!!! I'm back with an evo, and I need the basics!!! Thanks :)
Look up about 3 inches and you will find all you need to know. Pay close attention since phone version makes a big difference.
Other than that, you listen on the top and talk on the bottom. |

A step by step process seems to be missing, everything on rooting assumes some background, so far that I have read. All the info sticky threads seem to be clogged with prerequisite info, and version talk the some steps with assumed terminology one would have to stop look up the terms, deduct how to apply them to the instructions, then come back and try the procedure. Nothing just starts explaining the process from the beginning, or explains what you are doing and why. (example; why do I need to use Like a Boss edition, or replace something with Clockwork permanently) Unless I am having trouble finding it. I second the OP on the request. This procedure is a bit daunting, all I want is the ad-free app and tethering.
:scratcheshead I am not goading, I am just frustrated too. |

2 things we need to know, your Hboot version and your software version. You can find Hboot by shutting your phone off, then while holding the volume down button press the power button. This will enter the bootloader on up in the heading you will see Hboot version. This is an important number because it will tell us which method to use to root. Also, you can find software version by hitting menu/settings/about phone/software info then find software version, it will either start with 3.29.651 or 3.30.651. Now the good news for you is that someone posted earlier today that unrevoked now works with all versions of the Evo you can find that at unrevoked. Make sure you read all their instructions through before you proceed. This is the easiest root method. Also, there is another one click method on xda located here: [ROOT] ~~~ HTC EVO - Universal Auto Root ~~~ (updated for 2.02)(12/12/10) - xda-developers that is suppose to work with all versions of the Evo. Good luck and happy times with your evo.
