How long should a Nandroid recovery take?

I've had my wife's phone doing one for about an hour now. The progress dots keep coming, but it never seems to finish. I didn't wipe anything first. Should I have? What steps should I take now?

It should take couple of minutes lets say 5.. Take the batt out n try again?

That's way to long, take the battery out and hope you can get back into recovery.

Pulled the battery, things were a little scrambled in the ROM, got into recovery, did the wipes this time, all went well. Thanks
