WiFi Tether blues.....RESOLVED! :-)

So, I can't get it to work. Maybe some of you have faced this issue...?

Which firmware is installed?
2.2; 3.30.651.2

What version of wireless tether are you using?
2_0_5-pre14.apk but I have also tried other versions like 2_0_2.
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Installed the app; I have SuperUser.
2.App is granted SU
3.Click on Start Tethering and it starts, but I get an error "Tethering started with errors! Please check 'show log'"

Please provide any additional information below.
The log shows the following:

Loading bcm4239.bin from /sdcard/android.tether)... FAILED

From that, the access-point and WiFi interface also fail.

I did copy the bcm4239.bin file from the /etc/firmware folder. I also tried the file form the /system/etc/firmware folder as well.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Re: WiFi Tether blues.....

I downloaded and installed that app yesterday. I have not bothered to test it. One thing I did notice was that it stated on the web site that that release was for Eclair. Not sure if it is forward compatible but it is something to look into.

Re: WiFi Tether blues.....RESOLVED

Karl, I rooted my phone with HBoot 2.02 S-OFF - Like a Boss Edition! So it is rooted, well, and then I am using the Z4Root software to root it. I can and do go into root for Root Explorer and when I use Terminal Emulator. So, that isn't the problem, as it has been granted SU privileges.

I just got a new EVO with the 3.30 version, but used WiFi Tether on my old Evo since the Evo was pretty much released. Of course, that was the 3.29 version.

In response, though, it is the "stock" ROM that can be rooted - and it is .

I have looked on Google and PPCGEEKS and even the Support for WiFi Tether and can't seem to find anything, so I was wondering if anyone else had any other pointers....

Thanks again!

Re: WiFi Tether blues.....

lkillen, thanks! Yeah, the ironic thing is I tried other versions....like 2.02, 2.02-pre 14 and 15...So, that is 4 versions I have tried. Same error! And I rebooted the phone, cleared the files, etc...and still...no clue! They all get permissions, but who knows....I am just wondering what is causing the hiccup?

Sorry I couldn't help. I do know that PDAnet worked for me. I paid a couple bucks for it but it was pretty sound.
Now I hooked a cable between my laptop and the phone. Don't see that this should ever be such a showstopper. But hey!

Re: WiFi Tether blues.....

I use both PDANet (rarely) and Wireless Tethering 2.0.5-pre9 on my Evo.

Re: WiFi Tether blues.....

What rom are you using? Most of the custom roms have wifi tether working so if your on stock you may want to switch. Your already rooted, now its time to have some fun.

Re: WiFi Tether blues.....

I just solved it! I performed an OTA upgrade to 3.30.651.3 and it is WORKING! Go figure!!!!

Odd, very odd. But, it is working .

Cruise, thanks for thinking about the custom ROMS but as my whole family have EVOs on the stock edition, I find it easier to troubleshoot keeping it vanilla for us all .

Thanks to all!
