It's time to update the everything root in the sticky!

The tutorials are way out of date and don't apply to anyone that has bought an Evo in the last month or 2. The new phones have a different Hboot and some have different cameras that require 3.30.651.5 or there phones get screwed up. Unrevoked only works for phones with 3.29.651.5 or older and you will probably brick your phone if you use the old method of reverting back to 1.47. There are alot of Noobs joining our ranks and some of them will blindly follow the old methods and screw up their phones. For those that have the Hboot 2.02 try this method it will work: [ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02 S-OFF - Like a Boss Edition! - Updated 11/20/10 - xda-developers

Yes that 2.02 hboot will be a stopper. That is the most important it stops rooting unless you go to right thread. Agree Sticky should be fixed.

Definitely time to put a fork in the road. Too bad though. From here on out, there will be two (or more) versions to every story. You can bet bad blood to follow.

Re: It's time to update the everything root in the sticky!

Can you give me some more info?
I'll update the thread. I'm just not current on all the latest stuff. I created the thread when I first got the phone in June. I've tried to add info as things changed, but I obviously don't have all the latest info.
Maybe if you could give me just a few general steps, I can expand on it to make sure people know what to look for when they first join.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_7; en-us) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Safari/530.17 Skyfire/2.0)

I brought my evo with the latest software on it. Therefore I'm not able to gain root access at the moment. I do understand that it takes time to find new procedures.

If there's any way I can help which doesn't involve being phone less in the a.m, I'm willing to contribute. Please PM me.

Thank goodness this device is still awesome while running stock.

I guess the biggest change is the new Hboot 2.02 the steps to root these evos can be found here: [ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02 S-OFF - Like a Boss Edition! - Updated 11/20/10 - xda-developers

The other biggy, is the version 004 phones and some of the later 003 phones have a different camera hardware which required different drivers and thats why the 3.30.651.5 software version was not an OTA for all phones, only the phones that came with the 3.30.651.2 software were the new phones that had the new camera hardware. Many developers included the new software in their roms but its not required on the older phones just the ones with the new hardware. Unrevoked seems to have a problem rooting phones that came with 3.30.651.#. Since these new phones need the newer kernel and software to work properly, many have run into problems when using the old toast methods and others to root causing phones that won't boot afterwards or get stuck in boot loops because the new hardware needs the new software and kernel to run and the old root methods don't have the new software incorporated in them, this is why the "Everything Root" thread needs some updating. Anyone that has had their phones from the early days have already rooted and won't have these problems, but all the noobies are going to go to this thread and try the old methods and may brick their phone.

Re: It's time to update the everything root in the sticky!

Since there is an obvious divergence that is probably not going to ever come back together, my recommend is a separate thread entirely. Lest we always be filtering out for pre- 004 and post-003 and all the confusion that will entail.

Agreed. A new thread specifically for 0003 and 0004 hardware would be appropriate. The old thread would be helpful for those with older hardwares.
