out of memory

How may run out of memory? Im still on 2.1 but I can't see App2SD saving me much on space? I mean I have to delete apps all the time because other apps i like more I have no room for them. : ( it kinda blows.

Re: out of memory

You are out of Ram or SDCard memory? If the later, the problem is obvious. You can only stuff so many pounds into a 5 pound bag. How shocking is that.

I have never run out of ram. I do make a point to close apps that I don't want running any longer. I do wish all other developers would put exit routines in their apps to allow you to ree the app and release it to memory.

I am a developer but not yet any Android developer. I do suspect (or hope) that Android has some type of garbage collection that looks at usage and aging to retire old memory.

Re: out of memory

Its not about closing your apps, android automatically manages ram.

Re: out of memory

He's talking about on device storage... which can get pretty low with all the great apps and games out there. Apps2SD helps, but if you're a heavy apps downloader, you'll still run out. You should switch to 2.2 though.

Re: out of memory

2.2 and apps to sd. Will probably improve your device memory by 30%.

Re: out of memory

went from 2.1 to 2.2 last weekend for the same reason. I now have over 200 MB free with the same 231 apps installed that were choking my phone before. I used the Sprint Lovers All-in-One, which updated all my radios, PRI, etc. I did a lot of backup beforehand, and all went smooth. My Linpack is 6 times faster too

Re: out of memory

Someone should write an "App Euthanizer". Since so many of us download apps, play with them for a day and then never touch them again (I am guilty and I hate throwing anything away. Even free things). This app would look at your usage history and purge apps not used after a set period of time. (or at least pop up a list one a week or so)

App hoarding is a disease and takes an intervention from time to time.

I'm scared how many people said 2.2 is slower than 2.1 because of the flash... plus im rooted and its confusing how to update and still say rooted.
