I've always wondered...

Why is it that I never get notified that there are updates in the market until I actually open the market app itself or reboot my phone? Does it have anything to do with the fact that im rooted? I rarely even think to open the market app and usually when I do there are like 10 updates in there and THEN the notification pops up on my notification bar that I have updates.

Because, just like any other app, the market gets closed when CPU is needed, so it's not always around to check. I have 157 apps, so its just become habit for me to check a couple of times a day.

Re: I've always wondered...

You may have 15 apps on your Android, but if you were an iPhoner, you would have 27!

How did you get 157 apps installed? I don't even have close to that and I always get a error message saying I'm running low on space.

Re: I've always wondered...

You have to be connected to Google Service to check for updates...otherwise they don't want people complaining the market is using data in the background. But they probably should include an option to check for updates once every x amount of time

Also if you have app2sd you can use your sd card to store your apps. Theoretically, you could have as much as the size of the sd.

not necessarily. When you use native apps2sd, there is still data stored on the phone. What gets moved to the sdcard is something called an APEX file which is just meat from the app. That is why devs have to enable it in their apps instead of it just working like the apps2sd hack from the hero or g1.
